The UK this year has seen the coldest start it has had for 30 years and with cold winters comes illnesses. So this year is also the worst flu out break the country has seen for over a decade.

The outbreak first started in and around Central England and has since spread out through the whole of the country. It is said though, that more young adults are suffering. 1) There is currently a lot of stress flying around; we are in terrible economic times at the moment and the financial situation does not make things any better. Stress is the worst thing to weaken your immune system.
2) Worry, again with the current financial situation comes worry. People are so scared to lose their jobs as there are companies shutting down left right and centre, they are weakening their systems.
3) Cutting down on everything. While people are trying to save money they are cutting down on a lot of things that they need to fight of illnesses such as food, drink and home heating.
4) People are getting so panicked about earning money during this crisis, that they go into work when they are ill, which further more spreads the virus.

As you can see there are many reasons as to why people may be feeling ill this year. And I believe most of it is due down to stress and more from the constant talk about the credit crunch. People, especially people with families start to get worried about providing for each other, so the constant worries and strains cause the immune system to break down. So what our bodies had the ability to fight last year, is just not as strong this year. 2008 has been a hard year globally and 2009 may well be worse so remember to prioritise your health.

Quitting cold turkey, meaning, quitting smoking cigarettes all together, is probably the hardest method to use when quitting smoking. The results have been successful for some smokers, but, for others it is quite simply the hardest possible method to try.

Any way you use to quit smoking is a good way, if it actually enables you to succeed in actually quitting this very unhealthy habit. A smoker has many options to choose from to become a non smoker. As mentioned above, the smoker could try the cold turkey method, the slow to quit method, hypnotism, the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapy, or prescription medication. Determining which method is right for you is completely up to you. We will discuss the slow to quit method for this article.

In the slow to quit method the smoker will eliminate between 2 to 3 cigarettes from their normal smoking routine. For example, if it is normal for you to smoke at least 20 cigarettes per day, you will consciously start off your quit smoking program by eliminating 2 or 3 cigarettes. So, for day one of your stop smoking program you will only smoke 17 or 18 cigarettes. During week 2 you will eliminate 2 or 3 more cigarettes from your smoking routine. So, during week two you will smoke 4 to 6 less cigarettes than your original average. You will continue to do this until you are no longer smoking cigarettes.

You may find that you will need some help to quit smoking, even when using the slow to quit approach. Nicotine patches aren'’t suggested if you are using the slow to quit method. A nicotine patch is worn all day and emits dosages of nicotine into the body throughout the day. One of the better options for a smoker who will be using the slow to quit method is nicotine gum. For the times that you would have smoked the 2 to 3 cigarettes that you have eliminated, you will replace with a piece of nicotine gum. Nicotine gum releases a small amount of nicotine into the smoker’’s body. Just enough to help you feed those nicotine cravings but not too much to where it will make you sick if you smoke a cigarette later.

Any amount less of cigarettes per day is going to help you improve your health. It may be a healthier option to quit smoking cold turkey, but, with the slow to quit method you may be more likely to quit for good once you have finished the program. Quitting smoking is the best decision any smoker can make regarding their overall health. How the smoker gets to their goals doesn'’t really matter when the end result is them becoming a fully fledged non-smoker.
