So many people have the fitness goal to lose stomach fat, and in order to do that many people turn to sit ups. One important point is that you cannot spot reduce body fat. Spot reduction is the #1 Abdominal Exercise Myth.

Big marketing companies keep perpetuating the spot reduction myth because it is profitable, but the truth is that no matter how much you work a spot, you cannot specifically target the fat under your skin in a certain spot with exercises for the muscles in that spot.

Okay, let us get back to talking about how many sit ups you would have to do in order to burn one pound of fat. It is generally accepted that you have to burn 3500 calories from fat in order to lose 1 pound of fat, so just how many sit ups is that.

Well, if you did as many sit ups as you could in 1 minute you might be able to complete 50 reps if you are in really good shape. At that rate, you are probably around 10 calories burned in that 1 minute.

Now if you are not in good shape, you will probably only be able to do half as much (25 sit ups in a minute and burn around 5 calories per minute).

So if 50 sit ups is about 10 calories, then you would have to do 17,500 sit ups in order to burn 3500 calories. If you did 1000 sit up every day for 2 weeks you would only be at 14,000 sit ups.

Hopefully, you can see that using sit ups to burn fat might not be the most efficient workout strategy. Aerobic exercise, sports activities, or total body weight training are better choices for burning body fat.

Generally, travelling 1 mile by foot burns about 100 calories (walking or running 1 mile burns about 100 calories, but of course running takes less time).

With these numbers you would have to walk 35 miles to burn 3500 calories. If you walked 2.5 miles every day for 2 weeks, you would walk about 35 miles after two weeks.

So in order to burn 3500 calories of 2 weeks, you can do 1000 sit ups a day or walk or jog 2.5 miles a day.
I will venture to say that it is impossible for the average person to do 1000 sit ups in one day, but it is very possible for the average person to walk 2.5 miles (35-45 minutes a day).

To burn the same amount of calories in a typical candy bar (300) you would have to walk or run 3 miles or do 600 sit ups. If you want to lose inches on your waist I would skip the candy bar and go for an apple.

Losing weight is all about eating high quality foods and exercising regularly to burn excess calories. You can try to lose weight just by doing sit ups, but it is not the smartest or most efficient way to lose weight.

For the best weight loss results, take a comprehensive approach. Eat a nutritious diet, do aerobic exercise, and perform total body weight training.

Medicaid is a type of medical and dental insurance that is available for those that don'’t have the income to pay for such insurance on their own. Medicaid is a government program and the exact requirements for it can be different in each state. There will be an application that has to be completed as well as verification of income and resources. There is an income guideline that is based on the total number of people that reside in the household.

In most states, Medicaid is only available for children under the age of 18 that meet the eligibility criteria. They must also be legal citizens of the United States. Many states also offer Medicaid for pregnant women so that they can get the prenatal care that they need. Their child will automatically be eligible for Medicaid until they turn one year of age. Some states also have Medicaid for those that are disabled and the elderly but it depends on how their regulations are written.

If you don'’t have medical or dental insurance you should find out if you and your family qualify for Medicaid. In some states you can qualify even if you have other forms of insurance. The Medicaid will be a backup resource and can only be accessed when there are expenses the other insurance won'’t pay or co-pays.

Not all doctors and medical facilities are willing to take Medicaid though. This can be frustrating when you find that you have been approved for program yet you can'’t find someone that will take it. Some states offer an 800 number you can call to find Medicaid providers in your area. Keep in mind though that most of them only allocate a certain amount of slots for patients with this type of coverage.

The goal of Medicaid programs is to ensure individuals have a resource to help them get the medical and dental care they need. Too many people don'’t seek medical attention when they need to due to not being able to pay for it. While there are still some kinks in the system that have to be worked out, it is a very beneficial program. More providers are added all the time to help ensure those with Medicaid can get services.

Although Medicaid is a Federal program, the eligibility guidelines for it are determined by each state. This is why you will need to contact your local department of human services to apply for it. Most states have the locations divided up by counties so you will also need to make sure you contact the one in the area where you reside. You can call for an application to be mailed to you or pick one up at their office. You may find local doctor’’s offices, clinics, and hospitals also have the applications available.

It is very important to complete all of the information on the application for Medicaid completely. Failure to do so can delay the processing of your application and it can also result in it being denied. You will be asked to provide information on each member in your household. You will need to provide birth certificates, social security cards, and often immunization records for all household members.

You will also need to provide information relating to income and resources in the household. Make sure you make copies of pay stubs, vehicle registrations, and checking or savings accounts. All of this information is needed in order to determine eligibility. You may be able to apply for back dated Medicaid to cover the three months prior to the date you turn in your application. You will need to submit income for that period of time as well as copies of medical bills.

Make sure you are very honest with the information you provide on a Medicaid application. If you are found to have intentionally falsified information in order to be eligible you can face criminal charges. This can result in a fine and jail time. If you received coverage of Medicaid benefits fraudulently you will also need to repay those expenses.

The application process for Medicaid can be confusing at times. If you need assistance, contact your local department of human services. They can help you to schedule an appointment for you to go over it with someone. If you get a letter from them asking for more information to complete your eligibility make sure you comply as quickly as possible with getting them that necessary information.

The filtration and purification processes are highly important not only in the context of muddy water as even the clearest creek may contain micro-organisms harmful for our bodies. With the invention of the drinking water purifier we do not have to worry about the metals, the germs, bacteria, fungi and protozoa present in our water. New products are release every single day but most of them relay on old proven system. There are various types of drinking water purifier, some relying on filtration and some others on the use of disinfectants like chlorine, ozone or iodine. In this article I am going to concentrate on one filtration method, Reverse Osmosis.

R/O (reverse osmosis) is a filtration method that more and more people are using. This filtration method will produce very clean water. These filter us a complex process of water filtration that use several treatment stages in the cleaning process and that is why they are known as “ultra purification” filters. For those who want a simple under sink system or maybe a water purifier system for the entire house, these filters are a perfect unless you don'’t have limited supply of water. In that case, you should try something else. More on that later.

The R/O system works in two steps:

1. The first step in the filtration process is the removal of the largest residual particles. This particles are removed by activate carbon and a filter sock. The carbon need to be changed from time to time, to function as it is supposed to.
2. The second step is when water is pushed at very high pressure through a membrane that only allows the water molecule and not the impurities to pass. The clean water end up in a holding tank and the impurities are flushed away to the waste water container. You need to use a holding tank since the R/O filtration is a slow process and take some time to finish.

Before you decide to set up a Reverse Osmosis system for the treatment of you drinking water, there are a few things you should know about.

* The system will not protect you against the micro-organisms in the water. That means that you have to test the water to know about how good/bad it is. For that, you can by a home test kit or send the water to a laboratory for analysis. When you have the data, you can decide what kind of filtration system you should use.
* As mention earlier, the filtration process is a slow process. Only about 15 percent of the water that you are using turns to drinking water quality. The rest is flush away. That mean that if there are any limitations on the water source that you are using, maybe the Reverse Osmosis system is not the right solution for you.

Installation:
You can install the system by yourself if it is only for a single water faucet. If you are planning for a whole house purification system, then it would be best if get some professional help.

Summary:

For those who want a simple under sink system or maybe a water purifier system for the entire house, these filters are a perfect unless you don'’t have limited supply of water. The first step in the filtration process is the removal of the largest residual particles. The clean water end up in a holding tank and the impurities are flushed away to the waste water container. The system will not protect you against the micro-organisms in the water and as I mention earlier, the filtration process is a slow process. Only about 15 percent of the water that you are using turns to drinking water quality.

Are you considering dentures? Instead of these plates of false teeth, why not consider dental implants? Dental implants have all of the advantages that dentures do not have. While dentures may have been the gold standard for teeth replacement years ago, dental implants are what is being used now.

Dental implants consists of tiny metal devices that are affixed to where your teeth used to be. Just like dentures, your original teeth have to be removed and swelling must go down before you can get dental implants. This does not take more than a day or so. If you have dentures already, you will not have to worry about the swelling and can get dental implants immediately.

The screws that are used in dental implants are affixed to your mouth with a temporary device such as a bridge. They are then capped with a crown that looks exactly like a tooth. The bridge will hold the teeth in place until the bones in the mouth have made the implants their own. This takes about four months, after which time the bridge can be removed. As the bridge goes on the inside of your mouth and is not visible to other people, no one will know that you have dental implants at all. They will think that you had your teeth fixed.

After the four months are up, the bridge can then be removed and you can use the dental implants like you would ordinary teeth. You do not have to worry about eating an ear of corn or biting into an apple and leaving behind a set of dentures, as you might have to do with dentures. Nor do you have to worry about taking the teeth out of your mouth periodically and cleaning them in a cup, as you do with dentures.

Are dentures cheaper than dental implants? Yes and no. They may be cheaper in the long run, but dentures do not last forever. You have to get them adjusted periodically. This means every year or so you need a new set. They are not cheap and run in the thousands. As insurance covers some dental work such as dental implants, dental implants make better sense in the long run as you do not have to continue to get them replaced. You have to take care of them as you would any other tooth, but you do not have to get them removed and replaced.

Removing your teeth can be embarrassing for some people, especially if they get dentures at an early age. Having bad teeth or missing teeth can be a confidence killer. In some cases, people have such bad teeth that they get an infection that spreads all over their body because of that which is in their teeth. In those cases, the teeth have to be removed.

If you have been advised that you need dentures, or just want a straight and healthy looking smile, consider seriously getting dental implants instead. They are the wise investment when it comes to confidence and will end up saving you money in the long run as they do not have to be replaced. You never have to worry about losing them when eating anything hard nor do you have to remove the for cleaning. Dental implants are the gold standard when it comes to teeth replacement.

Whether you'’re choosing a facial at an upscale resort spa or your neighborhood day spa, the choice is typically based on three elements: the experience and outcome; the products used on the skin; and the results afterward. Many people choose a facial treatment because it’’s a perceived indulgence and provides relaxation - something we can'’t get at home. And most choose a facial because they want to achieve brighter, healthier looking skin.

Difficulty: Moderate

Step One

The fact that there are so many different types of facials on the market makes it difficult to choose the right one for you. Often, different spas and brands give different names to the same or similar facials. In most cases, these treatments will make the same promises such as rejuvenate, refresh, rehydrate, revitalize, relax, renew, regenerate, and restore - to name a few. Words like “detoxify,” “soothe,” and “nourish” are also often promised outcomes to a facial.

Step Two

The bottom line is that you are seeking a treatment for your face that will improve the tone and health of the skin. Hopefully, your experience will leave you feeling more beautiful, relaxed and refreshed as well. In the end, all facials should render your skin cleaner, clearer, and softer.

Step Three

Regardless of the facial you choose, a facial treatment should include the basics of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. These are achieved through the use of creams, mineral essential masks, serums, tonics, and oils. What differentiates various facials from one another is how and how much of these products are applied.

Step Four

For those whose skin is dirty and clogged, choose a facial which offer deep cleansing. For instance, look treatments that offer exfoliating, heat, a deep cleansing mask; blackhead-removal, and oxygen jets. Other terms associated with this type of treatment include detox, refresh, revitalise, hydrogen, oxygen or ozone, and enzyme peel.

Step Five

If your skin is sensitive and sore; sallow or blotchy with breakouts, consider a facial which will soothe and balance it for an even skin tone. Exfoliation (to even out skin tone) and a moisturizing mask are two elements of a facial to balance skin tone. Soothing, sensitive, brightening, relieving, revitalise, regenerative, enzyme peel, and multi-vitamin are other terms associated with this facial.

Step Six
Mature women may discover their skin is wrinkly and drained. If you are seeking a facial that will make skin appear younger, lift and plump, then find a facial that features rich creams and a moisturizing mask. Facials that are also geared towards nourishing, hydrating and restoring are ideal for skin that is dry and losing its elasticity. Also, for those who want to look younger, choose facials that utilize collagen-based products, pressure point massage and cathiodermie (electric currents). Other treatments aimed at producing younger looking skin include anti-aging, age-defying, enzyme peel, anti-wrinkles, and electro-stimulation.

Step Seven

If you want to prevent skin problems, facials are also ideal for maintaining healthy, glowing skin. This can be achieved through any of the aforementioned facials, depending on skin type and need. Some women choose facials described as the mini-facial, express facial, and prescription facial.

Now that summer has finally arrived, everyone is keen to get a sun tan and show of their bodies. However, there appears to be a paranoia about the sun and its harmful effects. Statistics show that the number of skin cancers are on the increase. Therefore, it is highly recommended that all individuals who get sun exposure get some type of skin protection before rushing to the beach.

There are a number of ways to avoid sun exposure and these include avoiding the sun, wearing protective clothing and putting on a wide brim hat. However, for those who want to get a tan in the sun, one should wear a sun screen.

There are 100s of sunscreens on the market and choosing one has become a mind boggling issue. Before one buys a sunscreen, it is important to know some basics.

- Always get a sunscreen which can block both UVA and UVB rays.

- Make sure that the sunscreen contains either zinc or titanium oxide or parsol 1789

- Ensure that the sunscreen has an SPF of at least 30 or higher. The higher the SPF, the greater the protection from sunburn caused mostly by UVB rays. But this does not mean that you can sit out in the sun longer.

- If you plan to be in the water, get a water proof sunscreen

- Get a sunscreen that is easy to apply and is comfortable to your skin

- Make sure you are not allergic to any components of the sunscreen before you buy one.

All sunscreens basically act in a similar fashion. Some absorb the UV rays and make them harmless and others reflect the UV rays. Almost all sunscreens have a combination of both components and come in a variety of formulations. Sunscreens are available as lotions, creams, or moisturizers.

Once you have applied a sunscreen, it must be reapplied every 2-3 hours to maintain its sun protection. Even if the manufacturers claim that there is all day protection, reapply again. If you plan to be in the sun, apply the sunscreen at least 20-30 mins before going out. Do not skimp on applications of the sunscreen. This is a common reason why people get sun-burnt. If you buy a water proof sunscreen and plan to swim, you need to reapply the sunscreen every 30-40 mins .Never apply sun screen in the eyes. Instead buy UV light blocking glasses.

One should be aware that just using sunscreens as a protection against skin cancer is not enough. For better skin cancer prevention, get in the habit of examining your skin. And once in while avoid the sun and get a tan using a tanning lotion. The results may not be long lasting, but they are safer than the sun.

Considering a tummy tuck by a board certified plastic surgeon? Ever wonder where the old you has gone? Ever just wish that you could have that old body shape back? Perhaps because of pregnancies, weight loss or just the aging process, you have seen a dramatic change in the shape of your abdomen.

Some of those changes may include loose or hanging skin of the lower abdomen, rashes or hygiene problems developing under that fold of skin, protrusion of the abdominal muscles due to weakening or stretching of those muscles or an accumulation of excess fat. If these are the issues that are troubling you, then a Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty may be the answer.

The main goals of a Tummy Tuck are to remove the excess, loose skin and fat of the lower abdomen and to tighten the abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty offers the best chance to have as flat an abdomen and as narrow a waist as possible. The procedure unlocks the potential that is there. Tummy Tucks can make all the difference in feeling and looking like your old self.

A Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is ideal for people with the following: Loose, hanging skin of the lower abdomen A protruding abdomen due to weakened muscles
Chronic rashes or hygiene problems due to the fold of excess skin. Deposit of excess fat in the lower abdomen with skin that has lost its elasticity.
After significant weight loss, pregnancy or abdominal surgery.

A Tummy Tuck is performed by first carefully marking the patient while they are standing. Careful pre-operative marking is essential to guiding the surgery to success. The procedure begins just above the pubis, by lifting the skin off the muscle from the pubic bone up to the bottom of the ribs. This releases the skin to allow the lower abdominal excess to be removed and the upper abdominal skin to be stretched downward to fill in the space from where the skin is removed.

It also allows the surgeon, to easily visualize the stretched out, thinned or separated muscles and to tighten them. Although the procedure does require an incision, your plastic surgeon’’s experience and intimate understanding of the patient’’s anatomy and body contours will allow the scar to be well hidden in a bikini bathing suit or even skimpy underwear. Like all procedures, Abdominoplasty does carry risks, including the risk of infection, bleeding and the risk from anesthetics. It is important to note that under the care of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, great care will be taken to avoid or minimize these risks.

In addition to a Tummy Tuck, many patients also consider Liposuction, either as an alternative or in addition to Abdominoplasty. Combined with a Tummy Tuck, Liposuction can give patients optimal results for the flattest possible abdomen. Many patients also undergo procedures on other parts of the body, which are designed to create an overall well-balanced shape. These include, breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, thigh lift and arm lift.

One additional alternative to a tummy tuck is a
“Mini” tummy tuck. The procedure is for selected candidates who only need tightening of the lower section of the abdomen. Only the area below the belly button is treated by the use of a shorter horizontal incision to remove excess skin. The belly button remains unchanged.

Anyone who has more than a few pounds to lose and has tried one or more diets knows how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off. Worse yet is when you follow a strict diet only to see disappointment on the scale when you still can'’t lose weight. It’’s normal to blame yourself for not trying hard enough and not having the will power to be able to follow the diet better. It’’s also normal to blame your lack of weight loss on the diet. However, once you'’ve tried diet after diet and still can'’t get results, it’’s time to try a different approach.

The problem may not be with you or your diet. Most likely your body is not functioning properly because of parasites that have made a home in your body. As disgusting as this sounds, it is entirely possible. Your intestines are carrying pounds of built up fecal matter and other waste. Not only does this sludge reduce the functioning level of your internal organs, it is also a breeding ground for bacteria and living organisms. Yet another blockage is formed when these parasites die and become hard pieces of debris in your system.

Odds are if you are feeling tired, have a stomachache, see worms in your stool, get a lot of gas, have diarrhea or vomit frequently and are overweight, your body has been invaded by parasites. Tapeworms, pinworms and roundworms are at the root of your weight loss problem.

It is essential to prime your body for weight loss before you start a diet. It is impossible to lose weight fast when your system is clogged with sludge and parasites. Your goal is to clean out your system so it does work properly. Only then can you lose weight fast and keep it off.

Eliminating Parasites

Now that you know what has been keeping you fat, it’’s time to work on changing it. There are several ways of going about this. The first is drug therapy. Prescription drugs help cleanse the body and rid it of harmful toxins. Vermox, Mintezol, Flagyl and Alinia are all options, depending on the type of parasite you are hosting.

Another option is to follow a drug-free alternative. Start by making changes in your diet. Avoid simple carbs, eat more fiber, and drink plenty of water. It is also recommended to take a probiotic supplement, a digestive enzyme and Vitamin C to support the immune system.

Other options for getting rid of harmful parasites include acupuncture, massage, herbs and homeopathy medicine. The most common remedy, however, is a detox diet. Intestinal cleansing can be done on your own from home with no medicine nor the side effects that go along with them. A detox diet requires a very specific diet plan that includes lots of fluids and high fiber supplements. There are a variety of detox diets on the market to choose from. Some require a few days of fasting and gradually adding foods back into your diet, while others advise you to drink a special concoction to help cleanse your intestines.

The bottom line is that once you acknowledge the reality of parasites being in your body and learn ways to get rid of them, fast fat loss can occur. Follow a sensible diet after detoxing and you are on your way to a healthier body. Continue dieting the way you have been, however, and you will never experience fast weight loss, if any at all.

One-third of the Americans with hypertension don'’t even know they have it. To test for high blood pressure, as it’’s commonly called, the doctor will place a cuff around your arm and gently tighten it through a pump so it feels a bit like a python hugging your bicep. Yet most people don'’t continue with annual check-ups after their childhood due to the rising costs of medical care.

You may get severe headaches, have difficulty breathing at times, feel tired or confused, and suffer vision problems or chest pains. Before the condition progresses into something more serious, like congestive heart failure, you'’d better get it checked out!

If you are hypertensive, then it can be caused by many lifestyle choices. For instance, a 2005 study found that women who took 500 mg of Tylenol each day for headaches or pains were more likely to develop high blood pressure than women who did not. Users of cocaine and amphetamines, as well as smokers, were also more at risk.

High body fat, high salt intake, low potassium intake, high cholesterol levels, inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption and high stress are often linked to hypertension as well. Health experts say that this condition isn'’t so cut-and-dry, that poor lifestyle choices aren'’t always the culprit. Some people are just at risk because they'’re aging, pregnant or born into a family with a history of high blood pressure.

People with hypertension may have to undergo several tests to determine the severity of their situation. The most basic test of heart health is the old inflatable arm cuff we'’ve been seeing at every check up for our entire lives, no big deal.

A urinalysis where you pee into a cup is a very non-invasive way of checking the blood for abnormalities. In rare cases, an electrocardiogram will measure your heart’’s electrical activity, but generally, the little tests are enough to determine whether your cardiovascular health is poor or not.

What are the dangers of high blood pressure, you may ask? If left unchecked over a long period of time, hypertension will inevitably take its toll on your internal organs. Blocked or ruptured blood vessels leading to the brain can cause a stroke and weakened or narrowed blood vessels can cause kidney failure.

Some people develop glaucoma from narrowed or torn blood vessels leading to the eyes, while others develop a thickened heart muscle from too much exertion, resulting in heart failure. Atherosclerosis or aneurysms happen when the arteries sustain damage and diabetes or heart disease are the result of metabolic failure. The good news is that, unlike cancer or other conditions, simply changing one’’s lifestyle can go a long way for the person with high blood pressure.
