It’’s hard to attend a birthday party without someone taking photos of you. And if you'’re the one taking photos, it’’s almost impossible to get really good photos, especially when the kids or adults are hyped up on a sugar rush after eating birthday cake and ice cream and downing five gallons of fruit punch.

But there are some tricks of the trade that professional photographers use all the time to help you improve your photos.

Before we go too far into photo techniques, we want to share one of the coolest ideas for new parents to have. If you want to have a set of photos that will be the envy of all your friends and look great on the wall, even when your children have children of their own, here’’s what you do.

Choose a place in the house that you can use year in and year out. One of the best places is in the yard, near a small tree. Each year, on your child’’s birthday, have them pose for a portrait. Be sure to shoot just their shoulders and head - the point of emphasis is on the face. Now, get a special frame made that has 18 or 21 ovals, depending on how many years you want to do this. One photo for each year.

Over time, people can see your child growing right before their eyes. Moreover, if you take a photo in front of the tree, imagine how big the tree will look behind them in 18 or 21 years.

Now onto some techniques:

Shooting groups.

No matter how hard you try, someone’’s eyes will always be closed in a group birthday photo. Here’’s what you should do. Tell everyone to close their eyes and keep them closed until the count of three. On the count of four, take the photo. Everyone’’s eyes will be open and adjusted by adding that extra second and no one will be blinking.

Get up close and personal.

Don'’t be shy about getting close ups of the action. Photos that are taken far away don'’t make the best use of the flash capabilities, so the images won'’t pop with color. Also, you'’re missing the expressions of the individuals since there are too many distractions in the frame.

Take lots of photos.

Professional photographers may take 10 to 20 photos for every one you see. They want a lot of choices so they can edit their way down to the few that tell the story.

Tell a story.

Again, professional photographers tell a story with their photos. Become a journalist when you'’re at a birthday party. Tell the story of the party from your point of view. The result will be far more interesting images.

Anticipate the moment.

Finally, anticipate everything. When someone is about to blow out the birthday candles, start shooting. Shoot before, during and after the moment. You can always choose the best shot later. But you can'’t recreate the moment that has just passed.

Care packages often include things like food, toiletries, and photographs for the person who is away from home, but these little items dont have to be all that is included. There are many larger items that are frequently needed and appreciated that dont make it into many care packages, so here is a list of some of those things that should be included that many people often do not think about.

The first category of items for care packages is linens. Sheets and extra sets of sheets are always appreciated, as are mattress pads, bath towels, hand towels, lots of wash cloths, pillows and pillow cases, and blankets. To go along with linens include things like laundry baskets or collapsible hampers or bags, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and of course, plenty of change for the laundry machines.

If the person who is away from home has any personal needs, items to assist with maintaining those needs might be included as well. These kinds of items would include glasses, contacts, contact lens solution and care items, pain relievers, cold and flu medicines, and first aid items like alcohol swabs, q tips, band aids, and ace bandages.

There are a lot of miscellaneous items that people often are in need of when they are away from home that can be included in these packages as well. Things like poster adhesive, sticky tape, under bed storage containers, throw rugs, can openers, and utensils like forks, spoons, knives, plates, and bowls are always good additions. Other things that can also go into special care packages include trash cans and bags, a can opener, cleaner for the persons living space, paper towels, dish soap, and also extension cords are good things, too.

When it comes to the common essentials, often what are included are toiletries, personal care items, clothes, food, money, CDs or mp3 players, snacks, snacks, and more snacks, and office or school supplies like stamps, envelopes, pens, pencils, paper (lots of paper) books, and decks of playing cards are always welcomed when someone opens up their surprise. Photographs of things and people from home are great things to add as well. Even if there are pictures of the bathroom that was just remodeled, those pictures will help the person who is away from home by including them in the things that go on while they are away. The whole point of care packages is to let the person know that they are cared for and not forgotten about, and that person will never feel left out of home.

Considerations When Hiring Your Au Pair

Filed Under Family | Comments Off

By Dominic Donaldson

Choosing the perfect Au Pair to welcome in to your family home isn'’t a decision to be taken lightly and will require a great deal of research before handing over a contract. As you trail through respectable agencies and word of mouth recommendations, it’’s important to be totally clear about the role you are recruiting for and what you will be expecting from your au pair.

Typically au pairs tend to be young single women who arrive in the UK from overseas, and as part of their contract, will agree to live with a family for up to a year to help look after their children and complete various household chores. Living in the family home doesn'’t mean they are always on call; scheduled working hours are usually around about 25 hours a week, or about 5 hours a day.

In exchange for their hard work, an au pair will be provided will full board accommodation at the family home, their own bedroom and a small weekly allowance. Some families will even contribute to the cost of language classes if their au pair isn'’t fluent in English, or even perhaps their airfare. Like any other working job, an Au Pair will be entitled to two totally free days a week, which can be agreed between the family and the au pair depending on work and personal commitments.

In addition to looking after the children during the day, many au pairs will be required to babysit a few evenings a week too. Au pairs should receive at least three weeks paid holiday per year, to be taken at a time agreed in advance convenient to the host family. If the family decide to take a holiday or go away for a few days, and do not require the services of the au pair, ‘’pocket'’ money will be expected to be paid and if the au pair is expected to remain in the family home to house-sit, then additional living money will also be expected for food and essentials.

Different families will be able to offer different kinds of accommodation, and there are no specific requirements of what to offer, as long as the au pair’’s room is clean and tidy and of a liveable size.
Some families prefer to offer a month’’s trial, so both family and au pair can be sure they are happy with the arrangements before getting too involved.

It is a relationship based purely on mutual goodwill and respect and you can only really measure this once she has moved in. It will of course take the au pair time to find her feet and adapt to a completely new environment but you'’ll know pretty quickly if it’’s an arrangement that will work or not. Hopefully, based on excellent references and recommendations, you won'’t have too many problems.

If the arrangement works out, you will be able to request the au pair not only looks after the children but also prepares light meals for the children and is involved in tidying, washing and ironing, light housework (such as dusting and ironing) and cleaning the kitchen or bathroom. However you shouldn'’t expect more than 1-2 hours cleaning a day. The main priority will be the childcare.

While it’’s not always a quick process, finding the right au pair will be worth your time and money invested. Remember she could well be in your family home for up to a year so it’’s important to find someone who is not only supported by glowing references, but also who you and your family feel totally comfortable with and will be able to slip right in to your family unit.

Marriage can be extremely tough. Many young couples enter into marriage with high hopes that their love will stand the test of time.

Unfortunately, changes do sometimes occur, and many couples are left wondering what went wrong in their marriage. Often times, when it becomes too tough to endure, couples choose to end their marriage and end their lives together.

However, this option is not always available to couples. Sometimes divorce is not an option for spouses even though they want to end their marriage due to a variety of circumstances and they instead opt for a San Bernardino county legal separation.

Some people do not realize that divorce is not always an option for some people and also do not fully realize what a San Bernardino county legal separation is. First of all, some people search for a way to take apart from their spouse when their marriage is on the rocks.

They search for a way to take this time apart because they are not completely ready to end their marriage and they want some time away to think about their marriage and if it can be fixed. Sometimes they think that a San Bernardino county legal separation is this time apart that they have been searching for.

This is not the case however, because the separation is not at all designed as a simple break from the marriage and it actually is carried out much like a divorce, only in the end, the couple is still married.
This is also where family law can be a valuable asset.

If you are the spouse that would like to take a break from your marriage and have looked into a San Bernardino county legal separation as the break, you will probably want to consult with family law so that they can fully explain all of the details. Family law will have the knowledge to help come up with the best option for your situation, even if the separation is not the right choice.

Now, on to the reasons why a San Bernardino county legal separation is usually chosen by a couple. There are several popular reasons why a separation is chosen by couples.

Divorce is against the religion of some couples, but when their marriage becomes too difficult to handle, they search for alternatives that will allow them to live apart from their spouse. These spouses often use the separation as a way to break apart their life with their spouse while still maintaining their religious views.

Another reason why a separation is sometimes chosen is when a couple wants to end their marriage, but one spouse is in need of medical treatment and they will only be covered by their insurance when the marriage is still in tact. If the separation is chosen in this case, the couple will still technically be married and that spouse would probably still receive the insurance coverage for the medical treatment.

Each year you accumulate more valuables. There comes a time when you start to realize that what you own would be difficult and costly to replace if something should happen to like a fire or a robbery. Have you ever taken the time to total how much it would cost you to replace your valuables? We'’re not just talking about precious paintings and antiques. We'’re talking about the everyday items you use and wear that are a must have to you. If you did you would find that the replacement value of these possessions that you may be taking for granted add up to a very big number. Surveys show that the average renter of a 2 bedroom residence has more than $25,000 in possessions!

What would happen if all of your possessions were lost today?

This loss would be devastating for most people, specifically those who were not protected by insurance. This was the situation for Private 1st Class Brian Roberts. His rented apartment was destroyed by a fire early this year. Combing through the ashes, he and his girlfriend estimated close to $28,000 in losses. Unfortunately, Roberts did not have renters insurance. Instead he was left in a sizable financial hardship trying to build back what was lost overnight, that which had taken him years to acquire.

Because this unfortunate scenario could happen to you, it is advisable to look into renters insurance and at least educate yourself in the pros and cons of having it. It could make the difference between a tremendous inconvenience and a financial burden that will take years to reconcile. Depending on the insurance company, renters insurance policies pay to repair or replace personal property that is stolen, damaged or destroyed due to fire, severe weather events and other causes. It also can protect your assets if you are found liable for lawsuits.

Because renters aren'’t required to carry insurance, unlike homeowners, many military personnel may think that renters insurance is an expense that is not necessary. However, given the above example, when you look at what may cost as little as the price of a pepperoni pizza each month a renters policy could be invaluable.

Military Personnel Living Overseas

Low-cost renters policies can offer added protection even for servicemembers living overseas. Premiums will vary by company and the level of coverage you choose and your marital status. For example if you are single, military personnel stationed in western Europe you will pay the following:

A Example of Renters Insurance Monthly Premium

$9.00- for $10,000 of coverage for detailed situations such as theft, fire or ..etc (with $150 deductible)

$3.00 - “Replacement cost” coverage option

$7.00 - $100,000 of liability protection, and up to $1,000 for medical payments.

Total: $19.00 per month ($228 per year)

Protecting Property

Many military personnel don'’t purchase renters insurance because they assume they are protected by their land lord’’s insurance since they are paying rent and don'’t own the property. In most all cases, the property owners policy only covers the building, not what is inside the building, meaning your valuables.

The military provides some protection for personnel living in government housing, but you should be very clear about what is covered and the military’’s limits for reimbursement. Officers living in privatized family housing might find the value of their belongings far surpasses the government’’s coverage limit. And while junior enlisted personnel may not own furniture or major appliances, a CD collection, bicycle, DVD player and other items could add up to warrant an inexpensive renters policy.

Levels of personal property coverage can vary by company and policy. A basic policy may cost as little as $5 per month for $2,500 worth of coverage, while a more comprehensive policy might offer $100,000 worth of coverage for $30 per month. All companies place limits on individual categories of property. For instance, a typical policy might limit total payments to $200 for cash and coins; $1,000 for valuable papers; $1,000 for theft of jewelry and watches; and $2,000 for theft of guns.

If you have specific items for which the value exceeds the policy limits, you may elect to pay a few dollars more to add a “personal article floater” to your coverage. Often used to fully insure expensive jewelry or electronics, “floaters” have no deductible and usually cover a broader range of claims.

In Addition, Protecting Yourself From Liability

Renters insurance also protects your financial well-being through liability coverage. If a visitor to your apartment slips on a wet floor and is injured, you could be held responsible for thousands of dollars in medical bills. In this type of situation, a renters insurance policy likely would cover the costs up to a specified limit.

Or if you leave the toaster oven on and a fire breaks out, your simple mistake could leave you personally responsible for damages to the building and others'’ property. Again, renters insurance could provide $100,000 or more to cover your liability, and even your legal fees in some cases.

Your Renter Insurance Travels with You
Another advantage of renters insurance is its transportability. This is a great benefit for military personnel who re-locate frequently. During a move, most renters policies cover personal possessions during shipment or while in storage. And when you travel, your luggage and other personal items are covered up to the limits of your policy. So if your duffel disappears from the airport baggage claim or your camera is stolen, there’’s a good chance renters insurance will cover it.

Before you buy renter’’s insurance it’’s important to understand the value of your possessions to determine exactly how much coverage you need, if any. You may find that to the contrary it may not be right to get renters insurance in your circumstance.

The first step is to take an inventory of your belongings, including how much you paid for each item and its current value. Make a record of your possessions, with pictures or a video camera, and store the records in a safe place that is outside your home so they are less likely to be destroyed in a disaster. The record can help you determine your coverage needs, and also can serve as your proof of ownership if a loss occurs, helping the insurance company to estimate your payment.

Next, determine if you prefer to purchase a “replacement-cost” policy, which covers the cost of replacing lost items at today’’s prices, or a “cash value” policy, which covers what the item is worth after depreciation. Although it typically costs about 15 percent more, many renters find replacement-cost coverage to be a better value.

As discussed above, its especially important for military personnel who relocate to look for a renters insurance policy that does not contain territorial limits. A policy without these restrictions will cover your belongings nearly anywhere in the world, with few exceptions.

Do your research and weigh your options. Whatever your situation is or whatever you decide to do, you owe it to yourself to educate yourself to know what the potential scenarios are, what your options are and then make an informed decision that is best for you.

Importance Of An Adoption Lawyer

Filed Under Family | Comments Off

By chee kin ho

The laws may be complex but most are for the benefit of the child and this is why an adoption lawyer is necessary; because of the legal complexities involved, their knowledge and experience will be invaluable. In fact it would be highly improbable that someone without expert training could complete an adoption without their help; there are just too many areas where an inexperienced person could lose the application before they have hardly started. Part of the initial procedure is for the adoptive parents to supply the court with information pertaining to the child; this documentation states why the birth parents are relinquishing their legal responsibility for the child.

It is actually possible for the new parents to submit these details themselves although this might not be the best way forward; it would however, be much simpler to employ a lawyer who is familiar with the adoption process and less likely to make mistakes. During the finalization process of the adoption, it might help to have a lawyer present as the adoptive parents must attend a hearing which usually takes place within the first year after a child is placed in their new home. Of course another option is too find an adoption agency that can help but be aware that it is more than likely they too will use an adoption lawyer to help with the process.

When people choose to adopt internationally, legal representatives must be present because there are issues to sort through when adopting a child from a foreign country as every country has its own laws and regulations. The language barrier is also present when dealing with this type of adoption and the chance of a couple being able to comprehend legal documents written in a foreign language is almost zero. For this very reason alone an adoption attorney who deals with international adoption will be in a position to translate these documents; without their help prospective parents may find themselves facing huge challenges.

There are many details to sort through with adoption, especially foreign adoption including details such as citizenship; there is also registration which in all honesty could not be carried out by someone without legal training. The adoption process is a complex area of law which an adoption lawyer can negotiate and help prospective parents achieve their dream. Couples attempting this on their own can make mistakes which may cost them dearly as there are many of aspects they will be unaware of owing to their inexperience in these matters.

Even adoption agencies retain their own specialist adoption lawyers so that they are in a better position to service their clients. This would definitely be an asset when using an agency to adopt; this usually eliminates the worry of finding a good adoption attorney for prospective parents. Parents need to know their adoption is legal in all aspects and not likely to be challenged at some time in the future; parents need this reassurance and confirmation.

The following article is full advice on things that parents should consider as they try to pick out clothes for a new baby.

Comfortable
The number one criteria for baby clothes should always be comfort. When you shop for baby clothes, especially infant clothing, make sure that you take the weather into account so that your baby is warm in the winter and comfortably cool in the summer. Choose clothes made of soft, cotton fabrics rather than stiffer materials and watch out for thick seams on the inside that can be itchy and uncomfortable against their skin. Baby clothes should also be roomy enough to facilitate movement and physical development. But, if they are too big they may actually hinder activities like crawling and walking.
