Sometimes it amazes and frustrates me how much I don'’t know. And sometimes the fact that there is so much to learn inspires and motivates me to grow. With all the studying and reading and training I have done I am still aware of many gaps in my education. These gaps show up in all areas of my life where I have not reached my full potential and I know it.

I was thinking about this missing curriculum one day and how grateful I am for the lessons I have learned outside of my “ordinary” education. I decided to make a list of some of the things I am enjoying learning and like to share with others who are learning them also.

As you read through the following list you can see that to obtain the missing curriculum you must start by admitting and unlearning what does not work. Until you understand that there is an entirely different approach to take the doors to the new life that these new lessons promise will remain closed to you. When you understand that you can reclaim the personal power to choose freedom the doors begin to open for you.

There is no doubt that we continue to evolve in spite of ourselves. Even if you don'’t consciously seek to stretch and grow there will be plenty of opportunities to do just that. Life will give you people, events and circumstances that will best support you to stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Have a look at this list of the missing curriculum and celebrate the learning you have already done. Consider what is next on your personal list. First read what most of us have learned and then read about what many of us have missed.

1. We have not learned to respect differences.
We were taught that to feel good we must believe that we are “right” and others are “wrong.”

2. We have not learned effective ways to manage conflicts.
We were taught to avoid confrontation, to act nice, to pretend everything is fine even when it is not.

3. We have not learned the communication skill of “deep listening” which gives us the ability to both hear and be heard.
We were taught to tune others out and to listen to the thoughts inside our own heads even when we appear to be listening to someone else.

4. We were not taught spirit-connection practices for remembering and retaining awareness of who we really are.
We were taught to discount what we know, to ignore our essential self, and to disconnect from our own wisdom, power and energy.

5. We were not taught to harvest our life lessons as we grow and to enjoy the process of our own unfolding.
We did not learn that life gives us ongoing opportunities to learn and grow and that we are ever-expanding and evolving by nature

6. We were not taught to release past patterns and habits that no longer work for us.
We learned to do the same things over and over again hoping to get different results.

7. We were not taught practical systems for launching our dreams and actualizing our potentials.
Some of us never learned to dream. Others learned to give up on dreams before they got launched. Still others learned to dream big but to have no confidence that their dreams would ever be realized.

8. We have not learned how to build inner stamina and to maintain our focus.
We were taught to resist rather than persist.

9. We have not learned to make decisions from the inside first.
We were taught to look outside for answers and to doubt our own abilities.

10. We were not taught the power of our thoughts and how to focus them.
We were taught that thoughts are difficult to control or manage.

11. We have not learned the value of our emotions and how to manage them.
We were taught to disown, ignore, deny and repress our feelings.

12. We have not learned the importance of self-love.
We were taught that it is selfish to love and care for our self.

13. We were not taught how to make peace with what is.
We were taught to fight with the conditions of our lives.

14. We have not learned to take responsibility for creating our lives.
We were taught to be victims, to blame others and to feel shame for what and who we are.

15. We have not learned that struggle is optional and joy is a choice.
We were taught that life is tough.

16. We have not learned the missing curriculum.
We were taught that our education is complete and we are done.

We are all doing our best to unlearn those things we were taught that don'’t serve us anymore. And it is clearly time to learn what, for most of us, was left out.

Either you'’ll hit it off with your date, or you won'’t. Making a good first impression can count for a lot, but sometimes, two people just aren'’t right for one another.

The trick is to present yourself well so as to see if you have something in common with your date, and to see if you'’d like to continue seeing this person. A date isn'’t something you win or lose at, so there’’s no need to try to give a false impression. Don'’t feign interest and don'’t lie. Just be yourself, hope that your date is doing the same, and see if you hit it off.

Yes - punk clothing is back again! Back in the Seventies, punks were the latest rage. It was the young people’’s way of being rebellious by finding the most outrageous way of dressing that they could. Old people were definitely shocked to see youngsters walking around with lurid coloured hair in gravity defying spikes. Bits were shaved from girls and boys and when it came to hairstyles, anything that drew attention was good.

As far as the definition between male and female went, there was none. The only way you could tell if you were speaking to a boy or girl was the tightness of the trousers and who wants to inspect that? Thus we now have a generation of older people who refer to every young person as ‘’dear'’ to make sure that don'’t get it wrong.

Punk clothing fashions were for the tightest trousers you could possibly get away with which might well explain the drop in the population and the increase of men with a low sperm count. It also explains why punks were to be seen hanging around on street corners. Sitting was a physical impossibility in punk clothing. Not just for because of their tight trousers but also for the pins. Safety pins and spikes were to stick out of clothes at dangerous angles to emphasis the fact that you were a punk and not just a person who’’s clothes were too small for them.

It wasn'’t just punk clothing that demanded metal objects to protrude from it. It was also the body itself. Anything that dangled should be pierced. If the piercings were in close proximity, then they should be joined together with chains. I personally can'’t see the problem with this. Many a time I have thought my kids should be chained and easily restrained but if I voiced this then they would do the opposite and become chavs and I just can'’t do this to them.

Today, the punk clothing has made a bit of a comeback, albeit with less impact. In the Seventies it was new and vibrant and just a little bit dangerous to be seen as a punk. Since then, the generations have become increasingly daring with what they will do to draw attention, even harking back to the days where they looked like the man from C & A. Thankfully this didn'’t last.

So, young people are punks once again. The hairstyles are extreme but not shocking like last time, the colours are still loud but so many people have gone down this route that I actually think it looks nice rather than shocking. Yes, I like to think of myself as one of the modern mums who encourage individualism - if that is possible with the anything goes view of today’’s youth. However, I am not easily scared.

It is common knowledge today that if you don'’t want your kids to do something outrageous, don'’t argue with them, don'’t ban them. Laugh, encourage them, they'’ll soon stop it. Even though they know it’’s reverse psychology it still confuses their little brains and it takes all the fun out of being rebellious. They should be happy. They'’ve got what they always wanted.

Anything goes when it comes to fashion - goth, punk, emo or chav. Kids can dress how they want and unless they walk around in gimp masks with a leash, they are still able to get jobs, dressed in a way that my mum’’s generation would have put you in an institution for.

Acne isn'’t easy to live with but 90% of the global population has to at one time or another. It strikes all ages, races, cultures and geographical regions. There are ways to deal with it, though.
